NJ PBS Airs Special Thanksgiving Episode of NJ Spotlight News with Briana Vannozzi Newscast on Thursday, 11/23

November 21, 2023 - NEWARK, NJ - NJ PBS's newsroom will produce a special edition of its weeknight broadcast, NJ Spotlight News with Briana Vannozzi on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 23 on NJ PBS. The evening's usual statewide reporting will be replaced by stories that inspire hope and community-building from the NJ PBS digital film series, 21, which spotlights changemakers across the Garden State. NJ Spotlight News with Briana Vannozzi airs at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on NJ PBS (check local listings). News segments are also available online at NJSpotlightnews.org, and on the newsroom's social media outposts.

"Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect and give thanks to those who enrich our lives," said NJ Spotlight News Sr. Managing Editor Jamie Kraft. "The changemakers from The 21 Film Series featured on our newscast are making their communities better through dedicated, selfless acts of caring across the Garden State. For that, we can all be thankful."

In the 21 digital film series, New Jerseyans who are making an impact in their counties tell their stories in short original documentaries, produced by NJ PBS's NJ Spotlight News team.  Online, 21 also includes statistics and information about every county in New Jersey, compiled by the NJ Spotlight News team and posted in MyNJPBS.org/21.

In the NJ Spotlight News with Briana Vannozzi Thanksgiving special, inspiring stories are shared from three counties:

  • In Gloucester County, Anna Baldwin has embraced her journey with Tourette Syndrome by educating others about the condition since her initial diagnosis in sixth grade.
  • In Middlesex County, Celmira Cordero educates and empowers residents about tenant rights with resources through New Brunswick Tomorrow.
  • In Warren County, Laura Zhang Choi is a local champion of educational equity, safe spaces, LGBTQ inclusion, and mental health awareness.

On its way to a line-up of all 21 counties in New Jersey, the film series has told stories from:

Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Hunterdon,

Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex and Warren.
