PANGKALPINANG -- The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono paid a working visit to PT Timah Tbk in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Wednesday (8/3/2022).

Working visit with the theme 'PT Timah Tbk's Inclusive Mining to Realize Blue Economy Implementation and Recovery of Community Welfare'

The presence of the Minister of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries was welcomed by the Main Director of PT Timah, Achmad Ardianto, Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Ridwan Djamaluddin and Forkompinda.

During this working visit, the Minister of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries visited the mangrove revitalization area of ??the Ikebana Kenanga Foundation in Rebo Beach, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency. This mangrove revitalization has been supported by PT Timah Tbk since 2010.

This member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, together with the Ikebana Foundation, has been planting and embroidering mangroves for about 12 years. This planting is carried out consistently, at least around 50 thousand mangroves have been planted to rehabilitate mangroves and expand the planting area.

The mangrove ecosystem that occurs has many benefits for life, including an effort to mitigate the climate crisis. As well as being able to absorb and store carbon in large quantities.

The working visit of the Minister of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries also witnessed the handing over of the Approval of Conformity for Marine Space Utilization Activities (PKKPRL) to PT Timah Tbk.

This PKKPRL document was handed over by the Director General of Marine Spatial Management, Victor Gustaf, to the Main Director of PT Timah Tbk Achmad Ardianto.

PT Timah also submitted a book on the history of 100 years of tin mining in Indonesia and the impact of the presence of Indonesian tin throughout history and a guidebook on PT Timah Tbk's Reclamation steps.

Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, said that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is currently focusing on accelerating the implementation of five blue economy-based programs to maintain the health of marine ecosystems, distribute economic growth in coastal areas, and improve people's welfare.

"The blue economy places consideration of aspects of marine ecosystem sustainability as a priority in developing marine economic sectors," he said.

The five strategic programs, namely increasing the area of ??marine conservation areas with an area target of 30%, measurable fishing based on quotas, developing sustainable fish farming, managing and monitoring coastal areas and small islands, and cleaning up plastic waste in the sea through the participation of fishermen or Ocean Love Month.

He continued, everyone who uses sea space permanently in territorial waters and jurisdiction areas must have Sea Space Utilization Activity Conformity (KKPRL) from the Central Government. KKPRL is very important to ensure the compliance of sea space users with sea spatial planning.

"PKKPRL is a basic instrument for the government to control the application of the blue economy in the management of marine resources. The process of evaluating PKKPRL application documents is carried out based on spatial planning/zoning plans and taking into account ecosystem sustainability, national interests, and the interests of the community and traditional fishermen. In addition, the PKKPRL assessment also considers the scale of the business, carrying capacity and capacity as well as the potential environmental impacts it will cause," he said.

He also appreciated the Regional Government and PT Timah Tbk for their attention to prioritizing aspects of sustainability in exploiting mineral resources in the marine space, and for the efforts that have been made to revitalize the functions of the mangrove ecosystem together with the community members in the target groups.

"Our hope is the realization of a healthy sea for a strong economy and welfare for the people. Because extracting minerals is also in the interest of the national economy," he said.

President Director of PT Timah Tbk, Achmad Ardianto said that PT Timah Tbk carries out mining in an integrated manner both on land and at sea. In carrying out its mining, PT Timah Tbk also implements good mining practices so as to minimize the environmental impact of the mining process.

"PT Timah Tbk received a mandate from the Government of Indonesia to carry out world-class tin mining. On the other hand, we realize that tin mining technology must continue to be improved. For this reason, we have challenges in terms of work safety and environmental safety," he said.

Tin is a future metal whose needs are increasing every year. Tin's position as the second largest tin producer in the world will determine the growth rate of technological developments globally.

He said PT Timah Tbk carried out sea reclamation by sinking artificial reefs. There are also various forms of artificial reefs such as FADs and coral gardens, restocking of mangrove squid and crabs, and monitoring of seawater quality.

PT Timah Tbk, he said, is also empowering coastal communities, such as sinking artificial reefs with fishermen groups.

"PT Timah Tbk is part of the people of Bangka Belitung. The tin mining industry is still an economic source for the people of Bangka Belitung and PT Timah Tbk continues to be committed to improving performance and environmental management so that the benefits and presence of PT Timah Tbk can continue to be felt by the people of Bangka Belitung in particular and Indonesia. in general," he said.

With support from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, PT Timah Tbk is optimistic that it can realize inclusive tin mining in the sense that it can ensure tin mining is safe and the community can benefit from the existence of the sea and can work hand in hand to support each other.

"Of course, we have to strive for forms of inclusiveness that are getting better and better for the progress of the nation and the state and the welfare of the people. We want the community to grow and develop," he said.

Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Ridwan Djamaluddin said that the PKKPRL permit showed that the company complied and complied with regulations. Apart from that, the Government, in this case, the Ministry, is responding to this in a careful way so that activities can run together.

"Especially for tin mining, the current tin is estimated to be 30 years old. The key is exploration, go offshore go deeper. When going offshore it is very important to pay attention to the marine aspect," he said.

He said, with this blue economy all sectors can coexist because the key is maintaining harmonious conditions for mining, fishing, tourism, and other environmental protection activities.

"The PKKPRL issued is very important to provide space for mining activities to follow good tin mining governance rules. Because in fact, the tin that is mined does not only think about the present generation but also future generations," he said.

During this visit, Minister Trenggono also planted mangroves and released mud crabs in the Rebo Coastal area. (**)

Distribute CSR to Coastal Communities

During this working visit, the Minister of MMAF also witnessed the handover of PT Timah Tbk's CSR to coastal communities and fishermen groups.

PT Timah Tbk has consistently collaborated with community groups to improve the economy of coastal communities by providing facilities and infrastructure for fishermen.

In addition, PT Timah Tbk also empowers coastal communities by carrying out several programs such as sinking FADs and coral gardens with fishermen.

The CSR program for members of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding which was handed over included assistance for coastal fishermen mooring docks, the assistance of six outboard engines for fishermen, submission of BPJS employment for fishermen groups for 457 fishermen, and assistance of 300 pcs of traps for fishermen's fishing gear.

To support education, PT Timah Tbk also handed over educational facilities, namely a hatchery for shrimp farming and floating net cages to SMKN 1 Selat Nasik.

One of the beneficiaries, Feriandi, a resident of Air Jukung Village, Belinyu District, admitted that he was very happy to be able to get a 9.8 PK outboard engine from PT Timah Tbk.

So far, he only has a 3.5 PK outboard engine so that the distance to go out to sea is not too far and has an impact on not maximizing catches.

"I'm a trap fisherman, usually if I go to that location it takes more than an hour because I only have 3.5 PK outboard engines. Actually, it can be faster, but because the engine is small. So yes, if we want to buy a new outboard engine, we are constrained by costs. too," he said.

"I am happy and grateful to be able to get outboard engine assistance from PT Timah Tbk. So that it can make my job easier," he said.

In the same vein, the Head of HNSI Bangka Lukman said PT Timah Tbk often helps fishermen in Bangka. Such as BPJS Employment assistance, fishermen accident assistance, and other assistance.

"PT Timah Tbk often helps fishing communities with HNSI, such as sea accidents. BPJS Employment and others," he said.

He hopes that PT Timah Tbk's synergy and collaboration with fishing communities can continue. (**)
