Eviction order sought for unauthorised encampment at Dosthill Park

Councillor Martin Summers, Cabinet member for Voluntary sector, Town Centre, Evening economy & Community Safety said:

"Tamworth Borough Council continues to use the legal powers it has available to take robust action against an unauthorised encampment at Dosthill Park.

"Last week, after making sure there were no welfare concerns for those at the site, we issued a direction notice under Section 77 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, requiring the unauthorised vehicles to leave the site within 24 hours.

"Unfortunately, the group have not moved, and officers have applied for an eviction order through the court. A court summons will be issued once we have a hearing date from the court."

Background

Tamworth Borough Council received reports of an unauthorised encampment at Dosthill Park late evening on the 9 August.

Officers visited on Wednesday 10 August and as required by law, carried out welfare checks on those at the site.

On Thursday 11 August, officers issued a direction notice under Section 77 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, requiring the unauthorised vehicles to leave the site within 24 hours.

On Monday 15 August, officers have applied for an eviction order through the court.

Tamworth Borough Council is continuing to review how we both engage with and respond to unauthorised encampments.
