Wyndham City is calling for feedback from residents on a new plan that aims to create 20-minute neighbourhoods, with thriving economies where you can work, shop, study and play close to home.

The Draft Wyndham Plan aims to connect neighbourhoods to the "heart" of Wyndham, which includes Werribee Central, East Werribee Precinct and Hoppers Crossing.

Community consultation will shape what is needed in the city heart and neighbourhoods. A framework will be developed by Wyndham City to attract investment and guide development to meet community needs.

The Draft Wyndham Plan is an integrated planning, development and place-based approach to better connect people and places in Wyndham.

Based on six big ideas, the Plan aims to:

• Create thriving neighbourhoods known as 'pulses'
• Establish a city "heart"
• Attract Investment in infrastructure that connects the neighbourhoods to the "heart"
• Create a boulevard down Derrimut Road with public transport that stops at train stations, retail and recreational centres
• Encourage developers to prioritise liveability and affordable housing in new residential developments
• Create public and active transport options to better connect residents to our major parks, waterways and major attractions

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre said the Draft Wyndham Plan proposes an 'action plan' to help deliver the Wyndham 2040 Community Vision.

"We undertook extensive consultation for Wyndham 2040 and the community developed a vision that values what Wyndham currently offers, and looks further to increase liveability," she said.

"The Draft Wyndham Plan has a detailed approach to increase liveability, create partnerships and attract investment to the City, and I look forward to hearing our community's thoughts on this important Plan."

Councillor Josh Gilligan, who holds the City Design portfolio, added that seven out of 10 residents travel outside of Wyndham to work.

"For many, the commute is an hour each way - the equivalent of four weeks' annual leave," he said.

"Never before has there been a better time to connect people and places and fulfill the aspiration of the 20-minute neighbourhood - a notion that gives people the ability to meet most of their daily needs within 20 minutes from home, with access to local transport options, workplaces and entertainment."
