The bookseller invites readers to join the free virtual event on Tuesday, December 3rd at 3PM ET
New York, NY - October 30, 2024 - Barnes & Noble announces Like Mother, Like Mother as their November National Book Club pick and welcomes readers to join author Susan Rieger at a free live virtual event on Tuesday, December 3rd at 3PM ET. The author will be in conversation with Lexie Smyth, Category Manager for Fiction at Barnes & Noble, and Jenna Seery, Associate Producer of Poured Over, to discuss the title as well as answer questions from audience members. Attendees must register via Eventbrite to access the livestream on Zoom.
"Susan Rieger has gifted readers with an absolute gem of a novel with Like Mother, Like Mother," said Lexie Smyth, Category Manager for Fiction at Barnes & Noble. "This is such a rich portrait of a family, a marriage, and women's ambition. I have not been able to stop talking about Lila since reading Like Mother, Like Mother, and I know our Book Club readers won't be able to either."
Rieger returns to the page this time bringing fans a family saga shot through with screwball comedy - and does it masterfully. At the heart of the novel is Lila Pereira, who takes the American media world by storm, becoming the executive editor of a major Washington, D.C. newspaper. She is an unapologetic careerwoman, leaving family matters to her husband Joe. Her ambition doesn't come without costs, though. Grace, Lila's youngest daughter, feels a deep sense of abandonment. It's their relationship - and Grace's desire to understand why her mother is the way she is - that propels this book forward and leaves readers utterly unable to put it down.
The Barnes & Noble Book Club selects a newly published work of fiction each month, chosen by their booksellers to provoke, engage and enthrall book lovers. The Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition of Like Mother, Like Mother features an original essay about the real-life inspiration behind the unforgettable character of Lila Pereira, as well as movie recommendations, a book club discussion guide and a special package with textured jacket and debossed type.
"I am delighted and honored that Barnes & Noble has chosen Like Mother, Like Mother as its November book club selection," said author, Susan Rieger. "Not only do I get to join a group of authors whose work I admire - Anna Quindlen, Rumaan Alam, Ann Napolitano, Ann Patchett, among others - it also signals to readers what I most hope will happen when they meet: that my novel will inspire strong opinions, pose big questions, and provoke impassioned conversation, all of which make for a wonderful book club discussion."
Leading up to the event, readers can share their thoughts and engage in conversation on social media using the hashtag #BNBookClub. During the livestream, readers are encouraged to participate in the discussion and submit questions to be answered throughout.
The enthusiasm and word-of-mouth recommendations of Barnes & Noble booksellers across the country have sparked ardent praise from readers nationwide, turning great novels into bestsellers. Previous Barnes & Noble Book Club selections have included: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett, The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller, The Night Ship by Jess Kidd, The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead, The Testaments by Margaret Atwood, The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle, Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin and TheCloisters by Katy Hays.
