Operator sought for new Maryport food venue

A hospitality expert is being sought to run one of Cumbria's most exciting new venues.

A new eatery is being created on Maryport's Promenade, which will have amazing views across the Solway. This destination venue is part of Cumberland Council's £12 million regeneration of the town, which will feature new facilities for residents and visitors alike.

The team at property agents Edwin Thompson in Carlisle has been tasked with finding an operator for the new property, which, subject to planning approval, will be built this Summer.

In their marketing document, they say: "Maryport Promenade is a picturesque walkway with access to the beach, providing stunning views across the Solway and its impressive sunsets.

"The council has recently opened the Boardwalk, an accessible walkway linking the promenade and harbour, and is in the process of creating a new harbourside event space, and bigger and better visitor attractions including a museum, gallery, new indoor and outdoor adventure play parks, and an enhanced Clip 'n Climb fun climbing destination.

"The improved access and increasing footfall has brought with it commercial opportunities, such as this proposed promenade café. It is located on Maryport Promenade, on the site of a former public toilet block, which is to be demolished as part of the construction programme."

The planned café will be a modern modular building with big windows and indoor and outside seating areas to make the most of its waterfront setting. The building will also include a retail space, and public toilets which will be available during opening hours.

Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, said:

"Anyone who knows Maryport will have admired its spectacular Solway views and sunsets, and this new venue is in the perfect spot to see them in all their glory.

"This is an opportunity to create a place that is really special which can be enjoyed by everyone from beach-going families to those looking for a romantic stroll to find some excellent food and drink. This is going to be a real destination."
