Meagan Gray, MD | Transplant Hepatology Item-Writing Task Force

Dr. Gray received her medical degree from the University of Louisville. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She is also a practicing transplant hepatologist and directs the metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) program at UAB, which encompasses both clinical and research enterprise. She also is the Associate Program Director of the Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Programs. Her research interests include health care disparities in MASLD in addition to the impacts of obesity and nutrition. You can view her most recent publication here.

Dr. Gray has been on the Transplant Hepatology Item-Writing Task Force for two years. "Being an item-writer is a lot of fun because you get to learn and refresh your own knowledge with a collaborative team and hone your critical thinking skills! It also provides a window into how test-makers think, which can also sharpen your own test-taking skills."

When asked if she has any advice for new writers, she added, "Try to find a unique or different aspect of a topic that is not as frequently tested. Make sure that you have data to back up your answers! And remember that the test is about making sure the test-taker is prepared to be an excellent clinician, not about tricking them!"

In her free time, Dr. Gray enjoys traveling, outdoor adventures and spending time with her family and friends. But her favorite hobby is running. She recently qualified for the 2024 Boston Marathon.
