Fair Courts Advocates Respond to SOTU: Video Calls for More Judicial Confirmations

Washington D.C. - In response to President Biden's State of the Union address on Thursday night, in which he outlined many of his administration's achievements, advocates for fair courts today released a video calling on President Biden to build on one of the greatest of those achievements, the nomination and confirmation of outstanding federal judges.

The video features appearances by leaders of nine prominent national civil rights and pro-democracy organizations. It sends a strong message to grassroots advocates, highlighting the fact that "every confirmation protects our rights, our communities, and our future." It urges activists to tell the Senate to confirm President Biden's judicial nominees and keep building a judiciary that will work for all of us.

You can also video the video on social media here:

Leaders appearing in the video are: Svante Myrick, president and CEO of People For the American Way; Maya Wiley, president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights; Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women's Law Center; Janai Nelson, president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund; Mary Kay Henry, president of the Service Employees International Union; Sheila Katz, CEO of the National Council of Jewish Women; Rakim Brooks, president of Alliance for Justice; Mini Timmaraju, president of Reproductive Freedom for All; and Doug Lindner, Senior Director of Judiciary and Democracy, League of Conservation Voters.

The call for more nominations and confirmations comes as President Biden has achieved confirmation of 181 lifetime federal judges. Advocates are urging the president and Senate to increase this pace with the goal of surpassing former President Donald Trump's total of 234 Article III federal judicial confirmations in one term.
