Police chased down a robbery suspect in downtown Seattle this morning after he after he stole a man's jacket and cellphone and then fled on a bicycle, and then on foot, before getting tired and giving up.
Around 5:15 this morning, a group of approximately a half-dozen people approached the 29-year-old victim near 4th and Pine and told him they wanted to exchange jackets.
When the victim declined, members of the group punched him, knocked him to the ground, kicked him and stole his jacket, phone, cash and shoes.
Police arrived a short time later, and the victim pointed the suspects out to police.
When officers went to contact the men, the suspects split up. One of the suspects, who was wearing the victim's jacket, rode away on a bicycle.
Officers chased after the man, who rode the bicycle to the 100 block of University before ditching it, taking off on foot, and surrendering to pursuing officers shortly thereafter.
Officers returned the victim's jacket and phone and had him taken to Harborview Medical Center by private ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
The 26-year-old suspect claimed to have ingested narcotics and was checked out by Seattle Fire, who could not find any signs of medical issues. Police booked him into the King County Jail for robbery.
SPD robbery detectives will now work to identify the other suspects in the case.
