Congresswoman Tenney Introduces Legislation to Support NY24 Vineyards

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today, alongside Congressman Joe Morelle (NY-25), introduced the Fairness in Vineyard Data Act to fund an increase of the federal government's vineyard data collection from the top two states to the top five, ensuring New York grape growers have improved access to this important data.

This bill would fund a nationwide state survey of grape production at National Agriculture Statistics Services (NASS) for the first year and an annual survey for the top five grape-producing states in the following four years. This would ensure New York vineyards are included in the study, which previously only included data from the top two grape-growing states, providing farmers and producers only a partial snapshot of the industry. By allowing grape growers a better understanding of trends, they will be more equipt to adapt to their grape cultivation and wine production methods.

"Funding a state survey of grape production at the National Agriculture Statistics Services for five years will ensure our New York vineyards are included in important industry data," said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. "By introducing the Fairness in Vineyard Data Act, we can boost vineyard data collection nationwide and support our New York's 24th District grape growers. I am eager to continue to work with Congressman Morelle to get this legislation signed into law and ensure our farmers and growers have the data they need to support our economy and their businesses."

"New York wine grapes are synonymous with our region, driving our local economy through production and agritourism that support good-paying jobs for individuals and their families," said Congressman Joe Morelle. "It's critical our farmers and growers have the most up-to-date information on their industry, which will allow them to better respond to new trends. I'm proud to partner with Congresswoman Tenney on the Fairness in Vineyard Data Act to help address this issue, and I look forward to our continued work together to see this legislation passed into law."
