South Garland Little League Celebrates New Field

Garland Mayor Scott LeMay and the Garland City Council honored the first day of the South Garland Little League season with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the team's new tee-ball field at Central Park. The new field is courtesy of a $20,000 grant from Ball Park Buns and their "Ball Park of Dreams" Little League field renovation initiative.

The City matched Ball Park's grant to supersize the impact. The renovation includes new outfield fencing and foul poles, new soil and grass, improving the infield playing condition, and adding trees for fan comfort and shade.

On April 6, Mayor LeMay threw the first pitch. Mayor LeMay, City Council members, Little Leaguers and representatives from Ball Park Buns cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Ball Park of Dreams tee-ball field. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Little Leaguers played on the new field and guests enjoyed a free barbecue lunch thanks to Ball Park Buns and Albertsons.

South Garland Little League serves more than 600 players and is dedicated to ensuring kids can play regardless of finances. The league offers scholarships to many families. Ball Park Buns, along with the City of Garland, is stepping up to cover field maintenance so the league can focus on helping players.
