Larson Announces $1 Million for the Restoration of the Colt Gardner’s Cottage and Carriage House Included in House Appropriations Package

Hartford, CT - Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced that his Community Funding Project request to restore the Colt Gardener's Cottage and Carriage House was included in the House Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill. This $1 million will allow the Gardner's Cottage and Carriage House to be restored and integrated into the National Historical Park.

The Gardner's Cottage and carriage House each require about $500,000 in repairs. The two buildings are located down the hill from the Colt family home and were noted as contributing buildings to the Coltsville Historic District in 2008.

'Since 2002 I have been working to establish theColtsville National Historical Park. In 2014, the park was authorized. This $1 million included in the House Appropriations bill would allow for the restoration of the Gardner's Cottage and Carriage House for public use. I thank Mayor Bronin, the National Park Service, and all of the local advocates who have worked to make this National Historical Park a reality,' said Larson.

'The Gardner's Cottage and Carriage House at Colt Park are two historic buildings that can and should be a part of the Coltsville National Historical Park, and this funding will go a long way to preserving those buildings for the future,' said Mayor Luke Bronin. 'Congressman Larson led the effort to secure the designation of the Coltsville National Historical Park, and now thanks to his leadership once again, we'll be able to begin stabilizing two beautiful, historic properties inside that park that have fallen into terrible disrepair over many years.'
