2024 Historic Preservation Week

The Sioux City Historic Preservation Commission is pleased to announce the 19th Annual Historic Preservation Week, May 6 - May 11, 2024. Events are planned all week for people of all ages and interests (see schedule below).

The Sioux City Historic Preservation Commission, established in 1993, utilizes the expertise of its members to research historic buildings, partner with local, state, and national organizations to safeguard sites of significance, and advise the City Council on local preservation issues.

The Commission planned the 2024 Historic Preservation Week events in partnership with the Sioux City Public Museum, Sioux City Railroad Museum, Downtown Partners, and the City of Sioux City. The goal of Historic Preservation Week is to bring advocacy and awareness to preservation in Sioux City. Proceeds from the week are used to continue preservation advocacy and awareness activities in Sioux City.

The various activities will have participants engaging in the 4th Annual Pints for Preservation Trivia game at Buffalo Alice, a walking tour highlighting the Heights Neighborhood, and the 2nd annual Bicycle Tour event. The 2024 Treasure of Sioux City Award will be presented to Badgerow Flats to acknowledge the preservation efforts completed at their building located at 622 4th Street. The historic Badgerow Building was built in 1933 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. In 2023 the renovation of the building into apartments was completed.
