Meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, with a delegation of Deputies and Senators of the Spanish Parliament who are members of the Joint Committee on the European Union

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, met today with a delegation of Members of the Spanish Parliament who are members of the Joint Committee on the European Union, led by the President of the Committee, Susana Sumelzo-Jordán.

The talks focused on bilateral relations between Italy and Spain and on the main European dossiers in view of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in particular migration issues and the reform of European economic governance.

While recalling the work carried out by Italy and Spain, also through the "Med5" group with Cyprus, Greece and Malta, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani said: "In view of the Spanish Presidency, it is a priority to maintain the close coordination we have had so far in order to find a European response to the migration challenge, for a fully shared management of flows without contrasts between the countries of first entry and the countries receiving unauthorised flows of migrants in the European Union."

Central to the talks was also the topic of the reform of the European Union's economic governance, on which Italy and Spain recorded a convergence of views, in particular on the need for Member States to have more fiscal room for manoeuvre to achieve the ecological transition and strengthen economic competitiveness.
