On June 8, 2023 at approximately 7:30 p.m., detectives from the Long Beach Police Department's Sex Crimes Detail arrested Nabil Shaheed, a 40-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on one count of false imprisonment with intent to commit rape, one count of kidnapping, and one count of kidnap with intent to rape.

On June 5, 2023, at approximately 2:42 p.m., officers responded to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Market Street regarding a sexual battery incident. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female teenage victim. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was walking on the sidewalk when a male adult suspect, Shaheed, came up from behind her, sexually battered her, and tried to pick her up. The victim screamed and the suspect fled before officers arrived.

Over the course of their investigation, detectives gathered sufficient evidence to identify Shaheed as the suspect, arrest him, and book him into Long Beach City jail. Bail was set at $100,000.

Detectives believe there is a possibility of additional victims and are encouraging any additional victims to come forward. Anyone with information can contact the Sex Crimes Detail at 562-570-7368.
