February 6, 2025
It was a regular Saturday when FDNY Lt. Yan Borukhov was dispatched for a burn injury. A child knocked over a bowl containing hot liquid, suffering second-degree burns to the chest and arms.
Most burns happen in the kitchen, and they're often preventable.
National Burn Awareness Week takes place annually during the first week of February. The 2025 theme is "Burn Prevention Where You Live, Work, and Play-Preventing Burns in the Homes."
The FDNY released its latest Public Service Announcement (PSA), reminding New Yorkers that burn prevention starts at home. For safety information, go to FDNYSmart.org.
The Department's PSA program is made possible in part with support from the FDNY Foundation, the official nonprofit organization of the Department.
