McConnell Comments on President Biden’s State of the Union Address and Governor Sanders’ Response

Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. -U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the following comments tonight following President Joe Biden's State of the Union Address:

"Well the President's view of the state of the union is quite different from the American people. I was looking at a survey today that said only 13% of the American people thought the state of the union was 'strong.' That means they don't like the way things are going.

"The border is open… crime is rampant… inflation is through the roof… in fact the only that that's come down lately was the Chinese balloon - thanks to our great military. But even then, after allowing it to traverse the entire country and survey many sensitive sites.

"It's no wonder the American people are dissatisfied. The President did the best that he could do to try to convince people otherwise. I think it was largely a failed effort."

Reaction to Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders' (R-AR) Republican Address to the Nation:

"She's an interesting contrast to the President. She's the youngest governor in America - 40 years old - a stark contrast to the President and his approach.

"We thought it was important to go outside the Beltway to get a response from people out in the land who have leadership positions and ideas to promote.

"She did a great job and we're proud that she's a part of our Party."
