Booker Statement on Senate Vote to Repeal the Authorizations For Use of Military Force Against Iraq

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after today's vote to repeal the Authorizations for Use of Military Force Against Iraq:

"After years of work, Congress has finally taken the necessary step to repeal the 2002 and 1991 authorizations for the use of military force in Iraq," said Senator Booker. "These authorizations are obsolete and no longer serve to protect our national security. It is Congress's solemn responsibility and power to declare war, and we must not cede that responsibility to the executive branch by maintaining outdated authorizations. I am proud that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle have come together to honor our veterans and their families and ensure that America is not caught up in a cycle of endless wars. Moving forward, we must work together to clearly delineate when, where, and how to use military force-we owe that process to our troops, their families, and the American people."
