2024-25 Student Housing Rates and Financial Incentives

Residence Life is excited to share that the 2024-25 Housing Application is now live and available for students to submit! This applies to students not currently living on campus. Current students will complete housing applications for the next academic year during the Intentions period in April.

Important Changes

Prior to submitting an application, we would like to make sure students, staff and faculty members are aware of some important changes going into effect for the 2024-2025 academic year related to rates and the affordability initiatives in place to increase the accessibility of on-campus housing.

Housing Rates

After approximately 7 years without an increase, we are implementing a $100, across the board increase to housing rates for all of our room types starting in the fall 2024 semester. This represents an approximately 3% increase over the current rates. The Housing Rates page on the Residence Life website has been updated to reflect the 2024-25 information including this increase.

Full-Semester Meal Plan Rates

Similar to housing rates, the cost of the full-semester meal plans has not risen in several years. Due to a significant increase in the costs associated with operating a high quality dining program, the price of the full-semester meal plans will increase from $2,550 to $2,625. This represents a $75 or approximately 3% increase over the current rate. As a reminder, students living in one of UAA's three residence halls (East, North and West Halls) are required to purchase a full-semester meal plan. Students living in one of our apartment communities can choose to have any of the meal plan options available on our website, but they are not required to do so. The Meal Plans page on the Residence Life website has been updated to reflect next year's increase and contains helpful information regarding the various meal plans available to members of the UAA community.

Live and Learn in Alaska Initiative

This incredible initiative began back in the 2022-23 academic year through a generous allocation of institutional aid by the chancellor at the time as a way to make the incomparable adventure of living and studying in Alaska a reality for more out-of-state students! The program has been wildly successful and incredibly popular among students, which is why we are thrilled to announce that Chancellor Parnell has approved a two-year extension to the tuition reduction program through academic year 2025-26!

In addition to the extension, and in recognition of the commitment made by the students who moved to Alaska because of this program, we are pleased to announce that UAA will now honor up to four years of the Live and Learn in Alaska tuition reduction for students who move onto campus at any point during the four-year period in which the program has been approved for. This means that even if the program were to not be renewed after the 2025-26 academic year, students who started out their time at UAA under the program will continue to receive this benefit for up to four years as long as they continue to live on campus. We hope that this grants peace of mind to prospective students and shows our appreciation to the students who already took the leap and moved to Anchorage to be a part of our community!

General Housing Scholarship

This generous scholarship will be entering its third year this fall, and we are proud to continue offering a modified version of it as a cost reduction measure for our students! Starting in the fall 2024 semester, the General Housing Scholarship will be reduced from $1,000 to $500. Additionally, the scholarship will only be applied to those residents who do not have their tuition reduced through the Live and Learn in Alaska program.

Residency Status

Given the changes being made to both the General Housing Scholarship and the Live and Learn in Alaska initiative next year, eligibility to receive either benefit will include completion of the residency determination process through the Office of Admissions. This means that students with a residency code of "pending" will not be eligible to receive either benefit. Moving forward, Residence Life will apply the $500 General Housing Scholarship to the student account of in-state students. A list of students whose residency code is "international" or "out-of-state" will be forwarded to the Office of Bursar to determine what, if any, reduction in their tuition rate they qualify for under the Live and Learn in Alaska initiative. Questions regarding the residency determination process can be forwarded to the Office of Admissions by emailing [email protected].

Academic Honors Housing Scholarship

We are pleased to announce that the Academic Honors Housing Scholarship will continue next academic year unchanged. UA Scholars and students in the University Honors College will continue to receive a $750 discount off the cost of their housing each fall and spring semester.
