Know Before You Go with SoCal 511

The Point: 511 service provides regional transportation resources to help navigate the Southland

Traveling anywhere in southern California? Southern California 511 (SoCal 511) makes it easier to get where you need to go. The 511 website offers traffic advisories, real-time train and bus arrival updates, bike routing, ridesharing resources, and veteran assistance all in one place for residents in Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties.

This regional service is provided through a partnership between the Riverside County Transportation Commission, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, Orange County Transportation Authority, Ventura County Transportation Commission, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority, and the Los Angeles Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies.

Riverside County and San Bernardino County residents may be familiar with the service locally, which was formerly Inland Empire 511. IE 511 was recently integrated into the SoCal 511 network to bolster regional data, enhance information delivery, and provide a centralized resource for travel and transportation information throughout the southland.

SoCal 511 provides a full suite of traveler information:

  • Traffic - From travel times and accidents to road closures and real-time traffic camera access, SoCal 511 can help you avoid delays along your route.
  • Public Transit - Bus, commuter rail, and subway information is available.
  • Commuter Services - Find carpools, vanpools, and Park & Ride lots in your area.
  • Bicycling Resources - Access information about bikes on transit, bike routing, bike safety, bike sharing services, and more.

In addition to the website, SoCal 511 offers a call-in service where users can dial 511 anywhere in the participating counties and request travel information. Simply dial 511 on a landline or cell phone, and say a phrase related to the information requested such as "Traffic," "Public Transit," "Metrolink" or "Rideshare" and the system will provide relevant information.

SoCal 511 is available for users 24/7 and is accessible in both English and Spanish. Know before you go the next time you head out - check the website or dial 511 to help make your trip a little easier.
