Today, SIPRI and its partners, launch a new film that summarizes its research on humanitarian protection in the Liptako-Gourma region-comprising the tri-border areas of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.

Watch the film below (in French)

The film is based on research published in the SIPRI report Humanitarian Protection in the Liptako-Gourma Region (2020-2022): Local Protection and Humanitarian Mechanisms.

The Liptako-Gourma area has been the epicentre of a region-wide crisis since 2015, characterized by a continuous deterioration of the security situation. The project aimed to study the effectiveness of humanitarian protection programs in this region, and in particular, local protection systems as well as the links between local protection mechanisms and humanitarian protection mechanisms. The research objective was to strengthen the effectiveness of humanitarian protection programs and their integration or complementarity with local protection systems.
