Highlights From The Augusta Commission meeting Held April 16, 2024

In this week's Wrap-Up of the Augusta Commission meeting held on April 16, 2024, city officials approved various agenda items, such as the development of a tiny home community. View a list of news briefs below for more details.

Tiny Home Village Approved

The Augusta Commission approved constructing the City's first tiny home community to provide housing to 18-25-year-olds aging out of the foster care system.

The village will be located on Merry Street, and Bridge Builder Communities says there will be a total of 25 tiny, fully furnished homes, and the residents will have access to educational opportunities, certification completion programs, on-site counseling, job training, and structured support systems will be offered on-site.

Food Truck Decal Requirement and Fee

City leaders approved the Augusta, Georgia's Planning and Development Department requirement for food truck operators possessing an Augusta-Richmond County business license to have an annual decal. The decal will cost $5.00.

The County Code of Ordinances Article 3: Food Trucks Section 6-5-10 Business Tax Certificate would be expanded to include one additional criterion: "The Planning and Development Department will provide a $5.00 decal annually to the food trucks with a current business license. The decal shall be prominently displayed on the food truck approved by the Department of Health and the Fire Department."
