Minister Tajani at the 107th presentation of the Giro d’Italia. L’Italia che corre.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani took part in the107th presentation of the Giro d'Italia. L'Italia che corre', held today at the Foreign Ministry.

The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that "sport strengthens Italy's reputation abroad, contributing to the country's economic and social growth by attracting tourist flows and investment, thus enhancing the territory". He added: "The Giro d'Italia also represents abroad the image of a country racing towards new goals.

Following this, the President of RCS, Urbano Cairo, noted that "the Giro d'Italia is a great sporting event and an important showcase for the promotion of Made in Italy. This recognition elevates the Giro d'Italia to the role of Ambassador of Italian sport abroad and reaffirms the closeness of the Institutions to the so-called Corsa Rosa".

The President of ICE-Agenzia, Matteo Zoppas, the President of Confindustria ANCMA, Mariano Roman, and the CEO of the Manifattura Valcismon - Castelli Group, Alessio Cremonese, representing the companies sponsoring the Giro d'Italia, spoke at the presentation. The Italian champions, Tatiana Guderzo and Diego Gastaldi, were the special testimonials.

The 107th presentation of the Giro d'Italia (Turin, 4 May - Rome, 26 May) is part of the intense integrated promotional activity that the Foreign Ministry is deploying in Italy and abroad (with over 11,000 initiatives carried out by the MAECI network in 2023 alone), in synergy with all the players of the Italian System, at the service of growth diplomacy.

The event was also an opportunity to announce the new communication campaign that, in conjunction with ICE-Agenzia, this year will also focus on the elements of innovation, technological research and environmental sustainability, on aspects related to health and nutrition, as well as on inclusiveness, cycling being a sport for all.

At the end of the event, Deputy Prime Minister Tajani gave a parchment and a plaque to President Cairo to award the Giro d'Italia with the title of "Ambassador of Sport Diplomacy", highlighting that sport is an instrument of peace. President Cairo, in turn, gave the Minister a personalised pink jersey.
