SEPANG - The Board of Directors of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (Malaysia Airports or the Group) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dato' Mohd Izani Ghani as the Group's new Managing Director, effective 1 August 2024.
Dato' Mohd Izani, who was nominated by Ministry of Finance for the position, is a former Board Member of Malaysia Airports where he served for nine years, from 2011 to 2019. He has over three decades of extensive investment and management experience, and prior to his appointment at Malaysia Airports, he served as Managing Director of UEM Group Berhad (UEM Group) since 1 August 2019 following his initial appointment as Executive Director on 1 January 2019.
Before his tenure at UEM Group, Dato' Mohd Izani held the position of Executive Director, Investments at Khazanah Nasional Berhad during which time, he headed the Turkey Regional Office and led several landmark sukuk transactions as its Chief Financial Officer. He also previously served at Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd and Renong Group.
Dato' Mohd Izani is a Member of the Board of Trustees of Capital Market Development Fund, a Board Member of International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) and Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), and a member of the advisory council of Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Economics) specialising in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom. He subsequently obtained his professional qualification from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and was conferred fellowship in 2000. He is a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (CIIF).
Chairman of Malaysia Airports, Dr. Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, expresses confidence in the new appointment, stating, "Dato' Mohd Izani's experience in the airport aviation and infrastructure sector coupled with his proven leadership, will steer the Group towards continued growth and success."
Additionally, the Board announced that Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Mohamed Rastam Shahrom, will be stepping down from his role on 31 July 2024 to pursue a new career opportunity. Mohamed, who has been serving as Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since October 2023, played a pivotal role in strengthening the Group's financial health and implementing strategic initiatives that enhanced operational efficiency and profitability. His leadership and vision were instrumental in navigating the company through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. As Acting Group CEO, he continued to drive the company's growth and expansion, solidifying its position as a leading airport operator globally.
