Webinar Provides Clarity to California’s Precise Rules for Meal, Rest Breaks

The California Chamber of Commerce is offering a webinar that provides clarity to meal and rest break requirements. In 'Like Clockwork - California's Precise Rules for Meal and Rest Breaks,' the CalChamber's legal experts will cover California's meal and rest break laws in detail, including steps to protect your company from liability.

Since meal and rest break compliance is a misunderstood and highly litigated area of law, employers need to understand the rules. This includes providing hourly workers with opportunities to take their breaks and doing everything you can to communicate what's required and when.

'Meal breaks have nothing to do with eating lunch. They're about providing 30 minutes of off-the-clock, duty-free time within 4 hours and 59 minutes from the start of a workday,' says Erika Frank, CalChamber executive vice president and general counsel.

The 'Like Clockwork - California's Precise Rules for Meal and Rest Breaks ' webinar will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. (PT).

Topics will include:

  • An overview of California's meal and rest break rules;
  • Premium pay for meal and/or rest break violations;
  • Monitoring meal and rest breaks of remote employees;
  • The recent state Supreme Court decision on 'rounding' breaks and other litigation trends;
  • Practical scenarios of common rest and meal break issues; and
  • Best practices to maintain compliance.

This webinar is ideal for human resources professionals, office managers, business owners or anyone responsible for hiring and staffing.

Attendees will be able to submit questions throughout this live webinar. Downloadable webinar slides and a recording of the live event will be available after the webinar ends.
