Long Beach Health Department Hosts Summer Health Resource Fair in July

Long Beach, CA - The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department), in partnership with Disability Rights California (DRC) and the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD), is hosting the Summer Health Resource Fair on July 8, 9 and July 10. These free events are focused on increasing access to COVID-19 services and resources in the community by offering free vaccinations and at-home testing kits, as well as gift card incentives for those who get vaccinated. Additionally, the Summer Health Resource Fair will raise awareness on resources available to people in the community with disabilities and those with access and functional needs, as well as informational tables from local community-based organizations and exhibitors.

"These events are a great opportunity for our community to access life-saving COVID-19 services and other critical heath resources," said Mayor Robert Garcia. "We hope folks come out to enjoy free food, activities - and receive their COVID-19 vaccine or booster if they haven't already."

These events will offer free food, music, face painting, games, superhero party actors, and sensory-friendly activities, as well as gift card incentives for those who receive a COVID-19 vaccine or booster. On July 8, the first 100 people to get vaccinated will receive a $50 Visa gift card. On July 9 and July 10, the first 125 people who get vaccinated will receive a $50 gift card. These partnerships with DRC and SCDD expand existing funding, capacity and support to help ensure that COVID-19 vaccines continue to be accessible to everyone in a safe and convenient on-site location.

"Creating collaborative community events that lift up the whole community is a top priority of the Health Department," said Kelly Colopy, Director of Health and Human Services. "Not only are we reaching our residents and connecting them with valuable resources and services, but we are also fostering relationships with key partners that will help expand that reach."

Summer Health Resource Fair events will take place on the following:

• Friday, July 8
  • Ramona Park (3301 E. 65th Ave.)
  • 2 to 6 p.m.
• Saturday, July 9
  • Long Beach City College, Pacific Coast Campus (Parking Lot 1, corner of Orange Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway)
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Sunday, July 10
  • Museum of Latin American Art (628 Alamitos Ave.)
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing COVID-19 infection and especially effective at preventing hospitalization, serious illness or death among breakthrough cases of the virus.
