05/18/2022

Arkansas State University mourns the death of Larry Lacewell, who served as head football coach and athletic director at the university from 1979 through 1989.

A 1996 inductee into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, Lacewell led Arkansas State to four Division I-AA playoff appearances in the mid-1980's, including a championship game appearance in 1986. The winningest coach in A-State football history, Lacewell went on to win three Super Bowl rings as part of the Dallas Cowboys' staff.

He was inducted into the A-State Ring of Honor in 2001, and the Larry Lacewell Most Valuable Player Award is given annually to the player on the team whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence on the football field and in the classroom, the utmost character and integrity on and off the field, demonstrated leadership with a strong work ethic and commitment to his teammates, and the undying will for victory.
