Looking for a fun and educational way to observe Black History Month?

The City of Fort Worth Diversity & Inclusion employee committee is hosting a program, Afrofuturism: Imagining the Future While Honoring the Past, on Thursday, Feb. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. Watch via FWTV and the City's YouTube channel. It also will be available to view on demand on both platforms beginning Friday, Feb.16.

The program will feature a presentation by Dr. Angela Mack that will include an overview of the basic tenants of Afrofuturism and a chronicle of 13 national and local historic figures from Emancipation to the present. There also will be a performance of music and monologues spanning 300 years of history infused with the ideology of Afrofuturism before the term was even coined.

Black History Month, acknowledged in February, is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans across U.S. history and society, including activists, civil rights pioneers and leaders in industry, politics, science, culture and more.
