Celebrate Almonte Library’s new construction and anniversary with the City of OKC and Metropolitan Library System

OKC residents and friends of the Metropolitan Library System are invited to celebrate the construction of the new Almonte Library and the branch's tenth anniversary on Feb. 3 at the existing branch, 2914 SW 59th St.

The construction ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. Immediately following the event, join the Almonte Library staff for the location's 10-year anniversary party. Guests can enjoy live entertainment, treats and more. The community can even make its mark on the new Almonte Library before it opens with the signing on a soon-to-be-installed fixture. The anniversary fun lasts until 5 p.m.

The new library was designed to bring cultures from the local community and to meet the diverse information needs of our guests," said Dr. Larry White, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Library System. "Interior designs, furnishings and artwork include influences from the many communities served by the Almonte library."

The new library will be over 20,000 square feet, nearly double the existing location. It will feature a Makerspace, podcasting studio, drive-up book drop, shaded outdoor programming space and more. The library's collection will include more than 40,000 books, magazines, DVDs and other forms of media in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.

The existing Almonte Library opened in 2011 as a temporary location while the Southern Oaks Library was under renovation. However, the community found such a need for this location, a leased space opened in 2013. The permanent Almonte Library is scheduled to open this December.

The $6.6 million new library was paid for through the voter-approved Better Streets, Safer City Bond Issue in 2017.
