ShotSpotter Alert Leads to Arrest on Wesleyan Drive

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, March 20, 2023 - On March 12, 2023, at 4:03 A.M., an officer from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 5000 block of Wesleyan Drive. Upon arrival, the officer heard more gunshots come from a vehicle as he was approaching; the vehicle then fled the area before officers could make contact.

The vehicle was quickly located in the proximity with a single occupant. Officers arrested Eddie Salas (M/22) of Santa Barbara, CA, and recovered a loaded firearm.

Mr. Salas was charged with Discharging Firearm in a Public Place, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Concealed Carrying a Weapon Without a Permit, and Public Intoxication.
