on Solidarity with Black Community
Organizational leaders issue statements in light of the death
of George Floyd and subsequent national protests
Washington, D.C. - The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) and NALEO Educational Fund today released a statement from NALEO President Ricardo Lara, and NALEO Educational Fund Chair Mara Candelaria Reardon and Chief Operating Officer Arturo Vargas in an act of solidarity with partners and allies in the Black community:
'In the spirit of justice, accountability, and equal protection under the law, it is imperative that as a diverse and multifaceted community, Latinos stand alongside our brothers and sisters in the Black community as our nation faces an overdue moment of self-reflection and opportunity to create meaningful change that promotes equity and upholds the dignity of Black life,' said President Lara and Chair Candelaria Reardon in a joint statement.
'We stand in solidarity with the Black community during this critical moment in our nation's history,' stated NALEO Educational Fund CEO, Arturo Vargas. 'In the tradition of promoting a civically engaged population opposed to systemic racism and injustice, we call on Latinos throughout the country to use the power of our voices to make it unequivocally clear that Black lives matter.'
The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials is the non-partisan leadership organization of the nation's more than 6,800 Latino elected and appointed officials.
