Expect Delays for Detours to Rehabilitate Sonoma Avenue

Detours for paving operations are expected to cause traffic delays, April 18-26, along Sonoma Avenue from E Street to Bobelaine Drive. Paving is expected to begin April 18 and will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Long paving days along with detours are necessary to help expedite the completion of this important infrastructure project.

Access will be provided to residents living and doing business within the construction area; this includes access for garbage pickup and mail deliveries. However, when traveling in this area be sure to allow for extra time, drive carefully, and follow posted detour signs during paving. Avoid traveling through the area if possible.

This week, crews are completing the removal and replacement of ADA-compliant curb ramps, completing water services between Talbot Avenue and Bobelaine Drive, and prior to the final surface overlay, installing new traffic loops.

Once the surface paving is complete, crews will begin raising the irons/utility covers and applying the pavement striping.

About the Project

This project started by replacing approximately 75 water services within the project limits and upgrading curb ramps within the project scope to comply with ADA accessibility standards. The paving operation involves rehabilitating approximately 0.9 center line miles of roadway due to failing and deteriorating pavement conditions by milling and filling 0.25' of hot mixed asphalt on all through lanes including the second through and merge lanes at the intersections of Brookwood Avenue and E Street. The mill and fill process will be followed by pavement reinforcing grid for additional strength and pavement life, followed by a 0.25' hot mixed asphalt overlay. Existing Class II bike lanes will be restriped.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in May 2024.
