Cherkizovo Group to sow an area of 224,400 ha in 2023


Moscow, Russia - March 28, 2023 - Cherkizovo Group, Russia's largest meat producer, is completing preparations for the planting season. The Group's total sown area will come in at 224,400 ha. This year, Cherkizovo will launch farming operations in two new regions - the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Altai Territory.

Preparations for the planting season are progressing as planned: sowing is expected to start on April 7 and last until late May. The equipment and seed needs of the Group's crop businesses are fully met. At its fields, Cherkizovo will deploy over 200 machinery units, including more than 100 sowing machines and over 100 tractors. The total sown area will come in at 224,400 ha.

Most of Cherkizovo's farmland is located in the Penza Region, where a total of 73,400 ha will be used for planting. Of that, 21,700 ha will be planted with spring wheat, 23,000 ha with soybean, and 13,400 ha with sunflower. In the Lipetsk Region, 61,000 ha of farmland is available for sowing, including 28,800 ha to be planted with soybean, 17,300 ha with spring wheat, 3,900 ha with sunflower, 2,200 ha with corn, and 1,200 ha with spring rapeseed.

Of the 33,700 ha of its land in the Tambov Region, Cherkizovo plans to use 13,600 ha for soybean, 9,300 ha for spring wheat, and 5,300 ha for sunflower. In the Voronezh Region, 12,500 ha are designated for soybean, with corn and spring wheat to take up 4,100 ha and 7,200 ha, respectively. The total sown area in the Voronezh Region will exceed 25,000 ha. Of the 20,800 ha of land available in the Orel Region, 9,100 ha are planned to be used for soybean, 5,600 ha for spring wheat, and 2,000 ha for corn.

In Bashkortostan, Cherkizovo's new farming region, the total sown area will come in at 6,400 ha this year, including 2,900 ha allocated for spring wheat and 1,900 ha earmarked for sunflower. The Altai Territory is another new region where Cherkizovo will launch its farming operations this year, with 2,000 ha of land allocated for spring wheat, 1,700 ha for sunflower, and 300 ha for soybean.

The harvested crops will be used by Cherkizovo Group to produce feed for the needs of its poultry and pig farms.
