ANZAC Day in the City

Anzac Day commemorations and activities within the City of Adelaide will once again commence from this evening with the Anzac Eve Youth Vigil.

The annual event is part of a series of commemorations, displays, exhibitions and reunions which the City of Adelaide supports through preparation of the Park Lands and necessary road closures.

City of Adelaide staff have worked hard preparing the city for Anzac Day, particularly the Park Lands where many ceremonies are held.

Anzac Day is a unique and special day in the city commencing with the Anzac Eve Youth Vigil and the presentation of the city is a key focus for our City Operations teams.

The following activities are associated with the 2024 City of Adelaide Anzac Day commemorations:

Anzac Eve Youth Vigil:

Between 6:00 pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024 and 5:00 am on Thursday 25 April 2024, the Anzac Eve Youth Vigil will be held at the South Australian National War Memorial and Prince Henry Gardens.

Anzac Day Dawn Service

Between 6:00 am and 7:15 am on Thursday 25 April 2024, the Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at the South Australian National War Memorial on North Terrace and Kintore Avenue.

Light Horse Memorial Service

Anzac Day Commemorative March

Between 9:30 am and 11:30 am (approximately) on Thursday 25 April 2024, the Anzac Day Commemorative March will commence from the intersection of Gawler Place and North Terrace, then it will travel west along North Terrace, north along King William Road / Sir Edwin Smith Avenue concluding at the Cross of Sacrifice in Pennington Gardens East.

Anzac Day Service of Remembrance at the Cross of Sacrifice

From the conclusion of the Anzac Day Commemorative March, Anzac Day Service of Remembrance provides a significant finale to the commemorations: the Dawn Service represents a funeral, the March represents the walk to the grave site, and the service at the Cross of Sacrifice represents the burial.

The Returned & Services League of South Australia (RSL SA) is responsible for the delivery of Anzac Day activities in the City of Adelaide, in partnership with the City of Adelaide and the South Australian Government. RSL website: https://www.rslsa.org.au/commemorations

Adelaide Metro will also run additional train, tram and bus services on Anzac Day (Thursday, 25 April) to help passengers get to and from the city for the Anzac Day Dawn Service and Commemorative March.
