Senior Volunteers Recognized for their Community Services

(BROOME COUNTY, NY) -The Broome County Office for Aging held a press conference this morning to recognize local volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to serving the community. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar joined Francie Keefe, Foster Grandparent Program Manager, and Deb Kerins, Director of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, to thank the volunteers for their invaluable service to our community.

The Foster Grandparent Program offers seniors aged 55 and above an opportunity to volunteer as classroom "grandparents" in local schools, Head Start programs, and day care centers. Volunteers in this program engage directly with children in general classrooms, providing essential support through activities like alphabet practice, math problem-solving, and reading.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is another opportunity for seniors aged 55 and above to contribute to their community. Through this program, volunteers can teach fitness classes, take part in assisting local food pantries, participate in neighborhood watch programs, and more.
