Summer in the city: Hammerson launches a series of summer activations across its destinations

Hammerson, an owner and creator of vibrant, continually evolving destinations in some of Europe's fastest growing cities, has transformed its portfolio this summer by introducing new exciting outdoor activations and concepts.

Hammerson's strategic repositioning from traditional retail anchored assets to a broader mix of uses across its city centre destinations continues, driving customer engagement, attracting new visitors and diversifying revenue streams.

Summer activations launching across the portfolio include:

  • Bullring & Grand Central, Birmingham - Club Paradiso: an al fresco bar boasting stunning views of St Martin's Church. The pop-up features Instagrammable décor and an iconic Ibiza vibe.
  • Les Terrasses du Port, Marseille - Sunset Live on the Terrace: In partnership with French station, Radio Star, Les Terrasses du Port's stunning terrace overlooking the French Rivera will come alive with live music including DJs, singers and regional bands, every evening until 30th July.
  • Westquay, Southampton - LED House Screen & Bar: hosted on the Esplanade, the bar will show what the British summer has to offer including the Wimbledon finals. The screen and bar will act as the backdrop to a new events series in partnership with brands from Hollister to Sweaty Betty including outdoor yoga, a fashion show and a craft market.
  • Cabot Circus, Bristol - Umbrella Bar on Quakers Friar: serving ice cold champagne and cocktails to visitors who can relax on beach style furniture, swing booths and comfy sofas.
  • O'Parinor, Paris - In partnership with Decathlon and Go Sport the Olympic-style event takes place from 8th July to 5th August and was opened by TV star and Ninja Warrior winner Clement Gravier. Invited VIPs and customers are able to compete in the events and win a selection of prizes.
  • Les 3 Fontaines, Paris - During 3Festiv'été' customers can enjoy a new summer experience with a kids play area, pétanque, ping pong, basketball court, kick back in the chillout space or watch films in one of the three outdoor cinemas.
  • The Oracle, Reading - Lace up, pad up and hit the floor for Roller Land, a new roller-skating concept with themed nights, music and even quieter sessions for those with special needs and disabilities.
  • Brent Cross, London - Big Kid Circus: In a first of its kind, Hammerson is transforming an area of its carpark into a brand-new pop-up circus featuring adrenaline fuelled performances from international artistes.
  • Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin - In partnership with local radio station FM104, The Fundrum Festival is a six-day event with incredible live acts including a Dino Live Experience, family yoga and fitness classes, Jack Wise the Magician, Kealan Doyle with his Sea Horse Aquariums and even hip hop classes.

The continued focus on placemaking is instrumental in changing the perception of Hammerson's portfolio from places where customers come only to shop, to 'destinations' offering innovative entertainment, leisure and social experiences that drive footfall and stronger levels of engagement.

Sarah Tinsley, Director of Marketing & Placemaking, Hammerson, said: "This is a fantastic way to attract and engage our customers, and challenges the status quo. These summer events not only enhance the overall customer experience but leverage the connectivity, culture and commerce of the city putting our assets firmly on the map.

We have been bolder in our approach to placemaking and haven't been afraid to bring in new concepts like skateparks and circuses. We are truly excited to welcome visitors and have much more to offer later this year."
