Suzhou receives over 5 million tourists during Qingming Festival holiday

During the Qingming Festival holiday from Apr. 4 to 6, Suzhou received 5.023 million tourists, increasing by 72.9% year-on-year. According to a report released by online travel booking platform Ctrip, the city was listed among the top 3 most attractive cities for short-distance tours, the top 5 most popular cities for self-drive travelers and the top 10 most popular domestic travel destinations.

CCTV's "Live News" and "Morning News" columns reported Suzhou's vibrant tourism scene during the holiday. And the number of tourists to Suzhou during the 3-day Qingming Festival holiday became a trending topic on micro-blogging site Sina Weibo.

According to consumption data released by Tongcheng Travel, short-distance tours for flower appreciation were favored by travelers choosing to take cross-city road trips during the just-concluded holiday. There were various flower-themed activities across Suzhou, such as the Suzhou Flower Show at the Suzhou Botanic Garden, the 28th Azalea Festival of the Humble Administrator's Garden, the cherry blossom festival of the Xiangshan Scenic Area in Zhangjiagang City, the 33rd Jiangsu (Changshu) Shanghu Peony Flower Festival in the Shanghu Scenic Area of Changshu City, attracting a great number of visitors.

Meanwhile, the ancient city of Suzhou remained a draw for tourists. The Pingjiang Road Historical Block received 222,000 visitors on Apr. 5, hitting a single-day record. And the time-honored restaurants on Guanqian Street ushered in a consumption peak during the 3-day holiday, attracting not only local citizens but also tourists from neighboring cities like Shanghai and Wuxi.

During this year's Qingming Festival holiday, young people became the main force driving Suzhou's tourism consumption. The city offered a rich variety of activities to younger tourists such as city walks, country walks, spring markets, immersive night tours in ancient towns, and cultural experience events.
