Kaptur Statement on Inaugural Hearing of the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after the first meeting of the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth took place. The committee, made up of eight Democratic Members of Congress selected by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is tasked with addressing growing issues of inequality that plague the country. While established as a bipartisan body, no Republican Members of Congress chose to participate in today's hearing.

'With unconscionable levels of inequality afflicting our nation, Congress must advance practical solutions that remove barriers to upward mobility for hardworking families,' said Rep. Kaptur. 'We cannot simply accept the status quo as an acceptable path forward when the industrial heartland continues to suffer from years of underinvestment in rural and urban areas alike. These communities deserve better, and I will work with my colleagues to see to it that our region's interests are represented, our challenges are understood, and that solutions are tailored to meet our unique needs.'
