Tubacex and SMS Group strengthen innovation in Abu Dhabi with new OCTG pipe plant and cutting-edge technology

At the recent TUBE 2024 event, we had the opportunity to share insights into our enduring partnership with SMS Group and our ambitious projects through an interview conducted with our Senior Supply Chain & Operations Consultant, Javier Martínez-Conde. As a global leader in advanced stainless steels and special alloys, we operate across over 30 countries, ensuring innovation, sustainability and securing energy supply are at the heart of everything we do.

Our longstanding partnership with SMS Group has consistently enhanced our production capabilities, particularly with the introduction of state-of-the-art technology such as cold pilger mills.

We are particularly excited about our strategic expansion in Abu Dhabi. We are set to launch a new CRA OCTG pipe finishing and threading plant in alignment with our decade-long supply agreement with ADNOC Group. This $100M investment highlights our commitment to localizing production and bolstering the region's energy sector.

The new KPW 290 L cold pilger mill at this facility will significantly boost our production capabilities, particularly for high-alloy stainless steel tubes essential for sour gas environments.
