From communication degree to corporate entrepreneur
UC grad recognized with A&S Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Many communication and public relations majors have careers in mind before they graduate from college, but few may aspire to careers in logistics. But Nick Reasoner, who graduated from UC's College of Arts and Sciences with degrees in both, forged his path there, and went on to found TransLoop, an award-winning third-party logistics firm.
Headquartered in Chicago, TransLoop now has five additional locations, from Nashville to Ft. Lauderdale to Denver. Since its founding, the company has taken the number 12 spot on Inc. 5000's list of Fastest Growing Private Companies in America, and Reasoner has been named to Business Elite's 40 Under 40. TransLoop was also recently named a Top 100 Freight Brokerage Firm by Transport Topics.

For this meteoric career trajectory, Reasoner has been recognized with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from UC's College of Arts and Sciences.
The award is given to an alumnus under the age of 40 for significant achievements within their chosen field of endeavor, and who is actively involved with UC.
"I owe a lot of thanks and recognition to the university in total-I would not be where I am today without the University of Cincinnati," he said.
During Reasoner's time at UC, he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the Phi Rho Chi Honorary Fraternity.
One of his most impactful student experiences was his internship at TQL, which led to a full-time position upon graduation.

After a seven-year career with TQL, Reasoner joined FourKites to learn about enterprise transportation software within the logistics space. That opened his eyes to the lack of visibility within the transportation sector when using a freight broker, and the overall lack of reliable transportation providers in a massive market.
Reasoner went on to become founder and CEO of TransLoop, which connects shippers to qualified carriers, combining cutting-edge technology and proprietary carrier solutions with white-glove service to move business freight from point A to point B.
Over the last four years, TransLoop has received more than 30 awards as a logistics industry leader, and the company now exceeds yearly sales of $100 million and has taken on zero outside capital with no outside investors.
"I'm forever grateful to UC," he said.

Nontraditional students can be hard to define and even harder to teach in a traditional environment. UC's College of Arts & Sciences makes it a point to offer flexible scheduling, learning and asynchronous options, aspects that helped Kathy Silbernagel and Al-Raheim Washington earn their liberal arts degrees this year. "In actual class setting, I saw little or no difference between my approach and those of my fellow classmates," Silbernagel says. "If there is a difference it might be in that many-maybe most-students coming out of high school do not have clear career choices in mind and this was not an issue for me." Nontraditional students are defined by one or more of seven characteristics: delayed enrollment in college; attends college part-time; works full time; is financially independent; has dependents other than a spouse; is a single parent; or does not have a high school diploma, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. How about a 70-year-old retired CEO and a family advocate and success coach in his mid-30s with a GED?

UC grad shares path to success, from biochemistry to corporate president

As an undergrad in UC's College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in biochemistry, Sujata Malhotra dreamed of going to medical school. But upon graduation she decided to go into the food and beverage industry, beginning her career at Cargill, Inc. She held various positions - quality assurance chemist, technical services manager, sales manager - while earning a master's in business administration from Capital University, focusing on international marketing.
