Press Conference for 10-Year Anniversary of Dallas Arts Month

Dallas - This April marks the 10-year anniversary of Dallas Arts Month, highlighting the diverse, vibrant and growing arts community.

To mark the occasion, the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture (OAC) will be partnering with various artists and elected officials to celebrate the kick-off with a press conference at 10 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2023 at the Latino Cultural Center (2600 Live Oak St., Dallas, TX, 75204). The kick-off event will feature live performances by Percussion Things' Len Barnett and Traditional Mexican Aztec dance group the Mitotilizli Yaoyollohtli.

Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem Omar Narvaez and Councilmember Paul Ridley, who are strong advocates for the city's arts community, will be speaking at the event.

"Dallas is committed to supporting our arts and cultural community year-round, but each April during Dallas Arts Month, we take time to celebrate our diverse communities and our city's rich arts-and-culture scene," Narvaez said. "This year's Dallas Arts Month will be very special as it will be the 10-Year Anniversary. I hope residents will take full advantage of an array of events and experiences that showcases our city's creative side."

After first launching in April 2013, Dallas Arts Month has become an annual city-wide festival celebrating contemporary arts and local culture. Office of Arts and Culture is partnering with Dallas Arts District, AT&T Performing Arts Center (ATTPAC), and the Dallas Area Cultural Advocacy Coalition (DACAC), to spotlight our vibrant, diverse and growing arts community.

"As the Council Member representing the Dallas Arts District, I know first-hand that the arts are an important expression of our creative community and our diverse cultural makeup," Ridley said. "They are also a critical economic driver for the Dallas economy."

Dallas residents and visitors can participate in hundreds of arts and cultural offerings both virtually and in-person for free. Throughout the city, patrons can find festivals, plays, concerts, exhibitions and more through the online calendar by visiting www.DallasArtsMonth.com.

"I am delighted to lead the Office of Arts and Culture as we celebrate the 10-Year Anniversary of Dallas Arts Month," said Office of Arts and Culture Director Martine Elyse Phillipe. "We invite all Dallas residents and visitors to experience the diverse and innovative selection of events as we celebrate the cultural arts sector in our beautiful city."

Other major partners to participate this year's Dallas Arts Month 10-Year anniversary includes: Dallas Area Cultural Advocacy Coalition (DACAC), Dallas Arts District, Deep Ellum Cultural District, Fair Park Cultural District, VisitDallas and the Dallas Tourism Public Improvement District.

"Dallas Arts Month is a huge celebration of the city's cultural treasures at a time when the arts are critical to bringing our communities together," said Executive Director for the Dallas Arts District, Lily Weiss. "I encourage everyone to embrace the rich culture and history of Dallas and welcome all to explore, experience, and enjoy the arts. Let's continue to celebrate the human spirit through the arts."
