Work set to start on new Community Hub in Weybridge

Work on a new Community Hub in Weybridge is set to start at the end of the month, the first in a series of new Community Hubs that will see shared spaces at the heart of communities.

The Weybridge Hub will include a modern library, a space for targeted youth support, accessible community spaces for hire and other commercially lettable space within. The lettable space will be 328 sq.m. (approx. 3,530 sq ft). More details can be found here Your Elmbridge - Surrey County Council (surreycc.gov.uk) . The works will see the external building refurbished, whilst the ground floor will be expanded by extending into the rear courtyard. There will also be a full refit of all interiors, providing accommodation for a variety of services and partners. The plans have been worked on and agreed by the council in partnership with architects Pick Everard and engineering company Atkins Realis. More information on the plans can be found here.

Weybridge Library will be temporarily relocated from 9 April to Weybridge Centre for the Community, Churchfied Place, Weybridge KT13 8BZ.

A new state-of-the-art Library and Community Hub is also due to open in Staines in April 2025. The new hub will operate as a gateway to the town and a central point for information for support and advice. The Hub looks to include integration with partners such as Citizens Advice, Voluntary Action, Spelthorne Museum, and other lettable space. Work to integrate the museum into the layout of the library to create an enhanced resident experience is also planned.

The council has been reviewing existing spaces within the county to ensure it is making the most of its assets, investing in infrastructure and providing modern, accessible and sustainable spaces for the future benefit of residents both young and old. The new Community Hubs form part of this, with each hub offering tailored to the specific needs of the surrounding neighbourhood. Residents will be offered opportunities to help shape the services on offer within their local hub as the roll out progresses.
