Rep. Gregory W. Meeks Recognizes JFK International Airport’s Historic Record of $2.3 Billion in MWBE Contracts

QUEENS, NY- U.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) recently recognized JFK International Airport for achieving a historic milestone in Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) participation with a record-breaking $2.3 billion in contracts awarded through the JFK renovation project.

This success represents the largest participation by MWBE businesses across public-private projects in the history of New York. Rep. Meeks has co-chaired the JFK Redevelopment Committee Advisory Council since its formation in 2018 and is an unwavering supporter of advancing wealth building opportunities for his constituents of Southeastern Queens.

"This more than $2.3 billion milestone emphasizes the commitment of the JFK Redevelopment project to drive economic growth that is beneficial to New Yorkers," Rep. Meeks said. "Most importantly, this development continues to make key investments into local and underserved communities not only in Queens, but across the state."

MWBE participation at JFK International Airport is expected to continue to break records through its projected completion in 2028.

"New York remains committed to providing travelers with a premier experience that includes world-class amenities and record involvement by local minority- and women-owned businesses will ensure just that," New YorkGovernor Kathy Hochul said. "This transformative project uplifts these businesses and deepens investments in the community while bolstering the state workforce."

To date, 680 MWBEs have been awarded contracts at JFK International Airport along with more than 200 businesses based in Queens. The JFK redevelopment team has also sponsored hundreds of seminars, webinars, and forums to help firms become MWBE certified, meet and network with contractors to build the skill sets needed to be successful in the industry.
