MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO LEAD MALAYSIAN DELEGATION TO THE 15th SESSION OF THE ISLAMIC SUMMIT CONFERENCE BANJUL, THE GAMBIA, 4-5 MAY 2024

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan will lead the Malaysian delegation as the representative of YAB Prime Minister to the 15th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference in Banjul, The Gambia, scheduled from 4 to 5 May 2024.

The Summit is expected to be attended by Heads of State and Government, and representatives from 57 Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Summit is preceded by two preparatory meetings: the OIC Senior Officials' Meeting and OIC Council of Foreign Ministers' Meeting, held from 30 April to 1 May and 2 May to 3 May, respectively.

The Summit will deliberate on the political, socio-economic and cultural challenges faced by the Ummah. The OIC Leaders will also exchange views on the theme of the Summit: "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development".

At the end of the Summit, Leaders are expected to adopt a Communique that will outline OIC's positions and measures on various issues of importance to the Muslim world. They are also expected to adopt the Banjul Declaration and a resolution on the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Ash-Sharif.

The Foreign Minister is expected to deliver Malaysia's National Statement during the Summit, where he will highlight Malaysia's views and positions on issues of common concern to the Ummah, including the situation in Palestine and the Middle East, Islamophobia, Muslim minorities and economic cooperation. The Foreign Minister will also highlight initiatives that have been undertaken by Malaysia in pursuing the interest and well-being of the Ummah.

The Foreign Minister's participation at the Summit signifies Malaysia's continuous efforts and strong commitment in playing an active role in the OIC. It also affirms Malaysia's dedication in addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by the Muslim world.
