ST. PAUL - Former Grand Forks Red River boys hockey standout Jon Lizotte has signed a contract with the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Lizotte, a 2013 graduate of Red River High School and member of the Roughriders' 2013 and 2011 NDHSAA boys hockey state championship teams, agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Wild on Wednesday, July 28. The 6-foot-1, 210 pound defenseman scored three goals and six assists in 32 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2020-21 season.

Lizotte has been with the Penguins organization since signing with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a amatuer tryout agreement during the 2018-19 season following the end of his collegiate hockey career at St. Cloud State University (2015-2019). He has yet to appear in a NHL game.

As a senior captain for the Roughriders during the 2012-13 season, Lizotte collected 13 goals and 29 assists. He had an assist in Red River's 7-1 win over Grafton/Park River in the 2013 NDHSAA boys hockey state championship game played at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Lizotte finished his prep hockey career with 112 points (32 goals, 80 assists).

He played two years of junior hockey with the Minot Minotauros prior to playing with St. Cloud State.
