On 1st April 1974, the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley was born. Thanks to the Government Act 1972, the towns and villages of Huyton, Prescot, Kirkby, Knowsley Village, Stockbridge Village (formerly Cantrill Farm), Whiston and Cronton were brought together under one, newly formed local council.

Knowsley is celebrating this landmark occasion with a year of events and special moments across the Borough. And as we mark the official birthday of Knowsley Council - 1 April - it is an opportunity for all residents to celebrate the place they call home.

Knowsley's 50th celebrations started with a bang in January when more than 4,000 people took part in interactive 'Moments of Light' performances across the borough.

There is lots more planned during the year including the popular Knowsley Flower Show, Knowsley Feelgood Festival, and Prescot Elizabethan Fayre (to name just a few!). Celebrations have been boosted thanks to £180,000 of funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This will be used specifically to support local communities to celebrate their heritage in different ways including workshops, activities and events.

So, whether you have lived in Knowsley for decades, or if you are new to the Borough here is some of what is happening through the year:
