OMV Petrom equips the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Center with a mobile transport unit

  • The mobile unit will be used to transport donated blood to medical facilities in Bucharest and the surrounding area
  • The action was facilitated by Smart Society, within the Donorium project

OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in South-Eastern Europe, supports the activity of the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Center and equips it with a modern mean of transporting blood and blood products.

Alina Petrescu, Communication and Sustainability Director of OMV Petrom: "We have been collaborating with the Bucharest Transfusion Center for over 10 years. Within the company, we regularly organize blood donation campaigns, and in the last 3 years, we have had almost 500 fellow volunteers. Just today, about 100 colleagues are donating blood in the mobile collection organized at PetromCity. We thank the partners from the Bucharest Transfusion Center and smart society for their dedication and we hope that this mobile unit will help save as many lives as possible."

The mobile unit for the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Center comes with state-of-the-art facilities for the transport of blood and blood components for transfusion in optimal conditions. Thus, in the case of blood crises for hospitals in Bucharest, the blood collected by other transfusion centers in the country can be safely transferred.

Dr. Doina Goșa, șefa Centrului de Transfuzie Sanguină București: "The Mobile Blood Transport Unit (UMTS) is a premiere for Romania. The car will give us the opportunity to be much more mobile, to safely transport blood where it is needed. All this will contribute to the increase in the number of blood donors in Romania, but also to the decrease of the transport times to hospitals for emergency situations. We hope that in a year's time we will increase by about 10% the number of blood donors compared to how many there are now."

Dragoș Mutașcu, președinte Donorium: There are many patients waiting for hospitals to procure the necessary blood. All this is aimed at streamlining the transfusion system and redistributing blood where it is needed. It is not enough to go and donate only once, because the need for blood is constant, so Romania permanently needs donors."

Based on donations, the Bucharest Transfusion Center supplies blood to 60 public and private hospitals in Bucharest.

The action is part of the Donorium project, of the Smart Society association. Donorium is one of the most important projects to promote blood donation in Romania, with over 100,000 intermediated donations.

The objective of Donorium is the technical and informational support of the transfusion system, so that donors and professionals in the system are made easier to work with.
