Fair Housing Rule Awaited

The House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA) called for the "immediate release" of HUD's Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) final rule by the Biden Administration. After the Obama-era AFFH rule was repealed during the Trump Administration, the Biden Administration proposed its reinstatement in a February 2023 proposed rule, which LeadingAge applauded and supported.

In her April 25 letter, Waters says that, because of a lack of AFFH regulatory requirements, the duties ascribed by AFFH have largely gone unenforced since the 1968 passage of the Fair Housing Act.
