From 21 to 23 August, president Cao Derong led a delegation to New York to participate in the Soy Connext and company matchmaking activities. During the Soy Connext, officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, industrial experts and representatives held talks on the global economic situation; the U.S. and the global soybean production, supply, and demand analysis. Xiamen C&D, Bohai Industry, Huifu, Jiusan Group and other participating enterprises communicated with U.S. soybean export and logistics enterprises.

On Aug. 23, CFNA and the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) jointly hosted the U.S.-China Soybean Industry Luncheon. Cao Derong, CFNA president; Lv Jiang, minister counselor of the economic and commercial office of the Chinese Embassy in the U.S.; and Stan Born, Chairman of USSEC, attended the luncheon and delivered speeches. Nearly 100 people attended the event, including Jim Sutter, CEO of USSEC, farmers from soybean-producing states, and representatives of Chinese companies.

President Cao said that during his visit to the U.S., he felt the expectations of soybean industry in China and the U.S. for improving relations between the two countries and promoting the healthy and stable development of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Although we are still facing some difficulties, but he believes that on the basis of mutual respect, win-win cooperation, through strengthening dialogue and exchange, deepening understanding and mutual trust, China and the United States soybean trade will continue to develop steadily in the future, and will increase the well-being of the people of the two countries and make greater contributions.

In his speech, minister counsellor Lv Jiang stressed that China-US cooperation in the soybean industry vividly embodies the mutually beneficial and win-win nature of the economic and trade relations between the two sides, and also demonstrates that bilateral economic and trade relations will bring benefits to the two countries if they are in harmony and harms if they are in conflict. China-US soybean industry cooperation should be based on the long term, and establish a more reliable and sustainable partnership. The Chinese market is a fertile ground, and he hopes that the U.S. industry will continue to invest in China with foresight and wisdom, and support mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the United States. He hopes that the U.S. agricultural sector and the business community could play an active role in safeguarding the U.S.-China relationship.

Chairman Stan Born said that over the past 40 years, the mutually beneficial U.S.-China partnership has had a wide-ranging impact in the areas of livestock, poultry and aquaculture, feed, soy foods and trade. Together, we have used U.S. soybean technology and trade services to help modernize these industries and improve their efficiency, productivity and profitability. U.S.-China trade is the "ballast" of the U.S.-China relationship. The U.S. soybean industry is committed to strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and continuing to deepen this partnership.

On the morning of the 23rd, president Cao Derong led the main members of the delegation to have a discussion with minister counsellor Lv Jiang and counsellor Jiao Dian, and listened to the opinions and suggestions of enterprises.

During the meeting, president Cao Derong also exchanged views with representatives of the USSEC, the Iowa Economic Development Authority, the Iowa Soybean Association to discuss issues of cooperation between the two sides.

Before the meeting, the delegation held a seminar in Seattle, inviting relevant experts to explain the new developments in the U.S. soybean industry and renewable diesel industry since the COVID 10 broke out, as well as hedging strategies for bulk agricultural products. The delegation also visited the Seattle port soybean loading facilities, and then went to Chicago to visit the Illinois Soybean Association, soybean farms and transfer stations on the river.
