Police - Media Releases 5/6/2021 17-Year-Old Facing Charges in 2 Separate Murder Cases; 7 Guns Recovered During Arrest

5/6/2021

A traffic stop Wednesday night by South Precinct Power Shift officers led to the arrest of 17-year-old murder suspect Jonathan Morales-Perez who today is facing charges at Juvenile Court for killing two men in separate cases last year.

Officers Garrett Reingardt and Garrett Latham, riding together, stopped a Toyota Camry for an equipment violation at 10 p.m. at the intersection of Una Antioch Pike and Hickory Hollow Parkway. Morales-Perez was driving and had three other juveniles, two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old, in the car, which smelled of marijuana. When asked if there was anything illegal in the car, Morales-Perez admitted to having a pistol under his seat. A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of seven firearms.

A record check of Morales-Perez showed that he was wanted for questioning by Homicide detectives. He was brought to police headquarters while the other teens were taken to juvenile detention and charged with unlawful gun possession.

During an interview at police headquarters with Detectives Myriah Iles and Clinton Schroeder, Morales-Perez admitted to taking part in the November 16, 2020 fatal shooting of Alexander Presley, 34, as Presley sat in his car in the driveway of his Weaver Drive home, and the December 16, 2020 fatal shooting of Lee V. Turner Jr., 22, outside the Tornado Bus Station on Nolensville Pike.

Oswaldo Corado-Callejas, now 17, is Morales-Perez's co-defendant in both cases. Corado-Callejas was arrested a few hours after Turner's murder and remains in juvenile detention. Paperwork charging him with Presley's homicide is being filed.

Morales-Perez is charged at juvenile detention with two counts of criminal homicide and one count of unlawful gun possession.
